Flexible Intermediate Bulk Container

Flexible Intermediate Bulk Container

The ABC’s of lBC's

Flexible Intermediate Bulk Container (FIBC), also known as "bulk bags," "bulk sacks," and "big bags", is defined as an intermediate bulk container, having a body made of flexible fabric. This flexible fabric is achieved by the weaving of polypropylene into flat yarns of fabric.

FIBC’s are generally manufactured to meet specific applications. Typically the bags are widely used for storage, transportation and handling of powder, flake or granular materials. Common products include mined materials, fine chemicals, food ingredients, plastic resins, pigments, seeds and fertilizers, cement and mortars, UN regulated products and hazardous wastes.

The height of the container, the diameter and the length of the spouts, coated or uncoated fabric, with or without a liner, all need to be considered when creating the most suitable bag for your product.

Although there are various bag styles and options, there are things that remain consistent regardless of the style of bag or the options:

FIBC's

  • Are self contained (do not require further packaging)
  • Cannot be handled manually when filled
  • Are meant for the shipment of dry materials in powder, flake or granular form
  • Are designed to be lifted from the top, by the permanently attached loops or straps

Commercial Packaging has a great reputation for our FIBC offerings. Our products are a careful collaboration between our design engineers, our customers and rigorous field-testing. In our totally integrated manufacturing facility, each bag is uniquely designed to the specifications of each customer to meet their production and operation requirements. All bags are 5:1 safety ratio and 6:1 for UN-related bulk bags based on loaded weight. All fabric is treated with 1200 hours of UV inhibitor. With the use of virgin Polypropylene resin, and under stringent Quality Control guidelines, Commercial Packaging is able to provide topnotch bulk bags. Benefits

  • Efficient and cost effective
  • Able to transport single units of bulk materials weighing anywhere from 500 to 8000 lbs in lieu of multiple 50 and 100 lb bags
  • Convenient for automated filling and discharging.
  • filling and discharge spouts help to eliminate spillage
  • Easily transported by forklifts or cranes
  • Increases stability
  • Increases “stackability”
  • Efficient utilization of storage and shipping space (road, rail, ocean, air)
  • FIBCs can be filled, discharged and stacked without manual labor which can help to reduce the number of injuries related to handling smaller containers
  • Compact when not filled. FIBCs are stored flat, requiring little space allowing 120 bags/pallet
  • Versatile. FIBCs can be designed for use with a wide range of materials. (Liners can be added for materials, which require moisture protection and sift proof seams are utilized for transporting fine granular products.)

Minimum Order Quantity Guidelines

Sad, but true, we may not be a good fit for some, and some may not be a good fit for us. We accept this and work even harder to be great in areas where we know our products and services will be most effective for all involved parties. We like to think of it as a 'win-win-win situation', whereas the supplier, customer, and end user all benefit.

With that in mind, please know, that as a custom packaging firm, certain minimum quantities must be respected. The minimum quantity will depend on the particular product. By all means, however, contact us and we'll see what we can do.
